BACCN CPD points

CPD Points Scheme Has Been Extended to Non-BACCN Events and Short Courses

In 2007 the BACCN were delighted to announce the launch of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points scheme. This has proved very popular with Regions applying for BACCN CPD points for their study events. CPD points are also awarded for attendance at the national conference.

The points provide critical care nurses with tangible evidence of their CPD activities. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2006) state that every nurse must undertake at least 35 hours of learning activity in 3 years. Many nurses attend study events but receive no evidence of the quality and quantity of the event. By awarding BACCN CPD points (on application) for regional events nurses are able to accumulate points which equate to the quantity of hours set out by the NMC. The BACCN CPD points also provide evidence that nurses attended a quality event approved by the leading national organisation for critical care nurses.

Following on from this success and to ensure that the BACCN achieves its goal of engaging with the wider critical care workforce BACCN are now delighted to announce the extension of their CPD points scheme to a wider audience. This has positive benefits for nurses and other health care professionals because it ensures that they can collect CPD points at non-BACCN study events and short courses.

The BACCN encourages organisations to apply for CPD points as this will provide an added quality assurance factor to their event or short course.  Application forms for CPD points approval can be downloaded here and Guidance can be downloaded here or email baccn@baccn.org  Please note that you will need to apply for CPD points at least 6 weeks in advance of your event (8 weeks for a short course) to allow BACCN time to process and approve your application. . Your application will be reviewed by our expert professional advisors who are nationally recognised for their expertise in education and critical care nursing. Remember these points are evidence of professional development and should not be confused with academic points.
